Excerpt #5
“Why do you call me Orion?” he asks, genuine curiosity in his voice and I can see that he’s trying to turn an extremely tense situation into something more personal.
I swallow, “uhm...”
“I won’t laugh,” he says, his voice is soft, but I can see a light in his eyes that tells me that might not be the case.
I decide that I have nothing to lose at this point and go for it. “When I first saw you, in the mall, you reminded me of a hunter.
Focused and driven to find its prey. Which you’ve only further proven by your actions since then.” I give him a half smile.
“Okay, so where does Orion come from?”
“Orion, the star constellation is also known as The Hunter.”
As I suspected, he starts to laugh, but there is a nervous energy ringing louder than his laugh. He sobers quickly and stares at me, intensity in his eyes, just like the hunter I’ve deemed him to be.
“You’re right, I am a hunter, in many ways. I have my sight on my prey and I am so close to having her in my grasp.”
• Facts about One Week:
Mandy and Rachel are based on real life people that I know and love.
