Can an older man be everything Krista’s been looking for?

Krista Michaels’ dating life has been non-existent since her divorce a year before. When her best friend steps in and declares it’s time for a night out at the newest May/December hang-out, The Gentleman’s Club, Krista enters a whole new world and lays eyes on a man who leaves her speechless.

Neil Clark likes younger women and having a good time. Krista catches his attention right away, From their first conversation, he can tell she isn’t a woman to simply play with. One problem: Krista isn’t interested, or so she says. But Neil isn’t about to let her slip away.

Krista’s heart and mind battle it out as Neil does his best to win her over. But they have one huge difference in what they want out of life, and Krista isn’t willing to give up her values, not for a man, not for money, not for love...

Exerpt:

Krista jogged to catch up with her friend. At the entrance, a big man stood there in the classic get-up. Sunglasses, a black shirt, and tight jeans. He was hot and Krista wondered if she could stay out there with him because he looked more like her type.
“Good evening, ladies. I need to see some ID.” He held out his hand.
She dug hers out of her wallet and handed it to him. He glanced at the I.D.’s, smiled, and gave them back.
“Enjoy your evening.”
Jamie looped her arm through Krista’s and they were on their way to what felt like the unknown to Krista.
Inside was dark as expected, but there was just enough lighting so she wouldn’t trip over anything. There were a lot of women there. Apparently her friend wasn’t the only one with a thing for older men.
There was a small dance floor to her left, but it was mostly set up with various lounge areas. A contemporary feel flowed throughout with black leather sofas, red-and-white throw pillows, and chrome décor. The bar sat in the center of the room, and Krista was thrilled when Jamie led her in that direction.
A female bartender, who was surprisingly dressed conservative in a white button down blouse, greeted them. “What can I get you?”
“Two sex on the beaches,” Jamie said.
“Suck up.” Krista leaned her back against the bar and glanced around. She didn’t see a man anywhere without a young, beautiful woman at his side. Next to the attached women, she felt like she was wearing a paper sack. Not a man looked in her direction.  “I bet all the good ones are taken.”
Jamie twirled a lock of her blonde hair as she checked out the men. “Why do you say that?”
“With the amount of women in here, any man without one at this point must be a loser.”
“Or he’s just waiting on the right woman.” Jamie winked.
The bartender returned with their drinks. Jamie told her to leave the tab open.
“Now what?” Krista asked as she picked up her beverage.
“Let’s find somewhere to sit, drink a little to lighten our mood, and go from there. This doesn’t need to be planned out.”
“This is so stupid.” Krista took a sip of her drink. “It feels like we’re waiting for some man to find us attractive and want to talk to us. It’s just weird.”
Her friend sighed. “Live a little. Jeez. How well has it been working out with the men your own age?”
Jamie had a point. “But still,” Krista protested halfheartedly.
“If you want to leave, I’ll give you my keys. I’m not going to force you to stay.”
“I might.” A deep masculine voice sounded from behind them.
A shiver swept down Krista’s spine. Her heart rate sped up and it felt like slow motion as she spun around to see who had spoken to her. Oh. My. God! She laid eyes on one of the most gorgeous men she’d ever seen. He put George Clooney to shame.
“Would you gorgeous ladies care to join me?” He motioned toward an empty couch.
“We’d love to.” Jamie smiled.
Krista attempted to speak, but no words were forming as she followed them over. She expected Jamie to sit next to the sexy man and keep him for herself, but instead, her friend left a gap for Krista to sit in the middle.
“I’m Neil.” He took a sip from his drink. The light gold liquid flowed to his lips and Krista found herself jealous of the glass.
“I’m Jamie, and this is my friend Krista Michaels.”
Why the heck did Jamie just given him my last name?
Neil rested his glass on the armrest. He was at ease and in his comfort zone as he straightened his light blue tie. “It’s nice to meet you both. First time here?”
“Yes. Though it’s a relatively new place. Have you been here much?” Jamie asked.
“A few times. I’m friends with the owner.” His gaze stayed on Krista.
She stared back, mesmerized by him. He had dark hair with slight streaks of grey at the temple. Not too much, just was the right amount. Perfect. Like him. Now if only she could speak, she might get somewhere.
“What do you do for a living?” He spun the glass around with his fingers.
“We’re both teachers,” Jamie answered.
His eyes widened. “This must be your favorite time of the year. Summer vacation.”
“It is.” Jamie poked Krista in the side.
Krista nodded since for whatever reason, her mouth still wasn’t working.
“Are you always so quiet?” Neil smirked. A tiny dimple formed on his chin. She loved a man with dimples.
“Usually she won’t shut up.” Jamie giggled. “What’s up, Krista?”
“I love your name by the way.” His blue eyes locked on her.
“Thank you.” She finally managed a word.
He took a long drink then set the cup down on the table. He sat back, pulling one leg up and resting his ankle on the opposite knee. “I’m going to be frank. When I see something I like, I go after it. And I like what I see, Krista. Are you single?”
His bluntness caused a wave of pleasure to ripple though her. “I am.”

“I’m attracted to you very much, but I don’t want to waste my time if you don’t feel the same.” He paused, staring at her with a longing in his eyes. Finally, he moistened his lips.  “That isn’t entirely true. If you weren’t interested in me, I’d try harder. I don’t like not getting what I want, and I want you.”

*Physical Touch by Sierra Hill

SYNOPSIS:

Fight or flight had never been a question for feisty Boston physical therapist Rylie Hemmons, until she met the man whose touch made her reconsider everything she’d worked so hard to create.

When Rylie takes on new patient Mitch Camden after his ski-accident, she is overwhelmed by a physical attraction she’s never before experienced.

Conflicted over her desire for Mitch and maintaining her professional oath, she works to keep the personal boundaries, just as Mitch is equally determined to close the distance.
At the risk of jeopardizing her career and reputation, Rylie is forced to make a life-altering decision that may have her running from what she needs most.

“Sports car. I knew it! Trying to make up for a lack of something, Pretty Boy?”
“I’ve never heard any complaints about my lack of anything.”
Hmm. Whatever, Stud Muffin.
Mitch opened up the passenger side door and held the door so Rylie could place the bag on the seat. She leaned in and carefully set the bag on the floor. Shifting herself up right, she turned around and came face-to-face with Mitch, who now was just inches of her. One step closer and he would have her pinned against the doorframe.
Her breath caught and a warm tingle shot up her spine. He was too close. Way too close. Totally in her personal space. She willed him to move. Instinctively, her hand rose to place it on his chest, presumably to push him away. His hand shot out and grabbed her wrist, yanking her toward him.
Breathe.
“I’m glad I ran into you, IQ,” he whispered into her ear, his hand dropping her wrist and moving to her face to brush a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “I appreciate your assistance and hope I can reciprocate in the very near future.”
Rylie’s hand remained on his chest. She could feel his body heat and the beating rhythm of his heart. She meant to push him away, to maneuver around him and place herself a safe distance from him. But her hand somehow had a mind of its own and stayed there, enjoying the texture of his soft sweater and the marbled feel of his chest. In fact, the other hand joined in on its own volition. His lips quirked up, apparently showing his approval.
She had just opened her mouth to say something and without warning, his mouth was upon hers in lightning-fast speed. He placed his hands on the sides of her face and tilted her head, allowing him to gain access to her lips. He gently pried her lips open, rubbing his tongue sensually along her bottom lip. Rylie’s mind rebelled, but her mouth betrayed her, giving in to the suppleness of his kissable lips. Her first instinct was to push him away and knee him in the balls, but the feeling was so intense and pleasurable, she gave in to the feeling that she was floating.

Synopsis:
Him:
You would think that because I am a Marine that life isn’t that hard to live. I’d like to tell you that you couldn’t be more wrong. War is hell on earth. I have seen so many things that will haunt me for the rest of my life. No matter how much I try to forget the light fading from someone’s eyes, I cannot. My life is one determined by the mind. I wake up every day to fears of what will trigger the turmoil that sends me into overdrive. My life is depicted by sounds and colors and things that make me less of a man.
Who am I, well I am CPL Blake Johnson. I am a United States Marine and I am living with post-traumatic stress disorder. If it weren’t for Anna, the sunshine in my life things would be much harder than they are.

Her:
Being a cosmetologist is not the easiest job for me, and after losing my best friend to her inner demons. I am bound and determined to not lose the man I love as well. They say in my line of profession you are more than what you claim. You are a therapist, a shrink, a person that listens to anything and everything. I am not that person. I have so much built up inside me I think I may be about to explode. I hope that this isn’t true because my heart picked someone that happens to be as inconsolable as I feel.
Who am I? Well, my name is Anna Henderson. I am just trying to live my life one moment at a time and praying that I don’t mess it up.
Excerpt:

We are sitting around enjoying a nice dinner and drinks.  Sam and Anna are actually getting along a lot better than I thought they would.  In all honesty, I believe they could be good friends.  If it weren’t for Mary-Beth being with Jameson, I think they would have been friends too.

We are all sitting there eating our salad and talking when a plate crashes in the distance. I immediately duck and cover under the table.  Oh shit, this isn’t good.  I grab hold to the table and just try to let me breathing even out.  I know this doesn’t look good for me, but all I can think about is that damn bomb blowing up and taking everyone away.  I’m shaking under the table, my whole body quivering.

“It’s okay, Anna.  Just give him a minute.  That crash probably triggered a bad memory for him. Sam, explain please.”  I hear Jameson saying, but it sounds so far away.  I feel someone beside me, but I can’t look up.  My head is in my hands against my knees and I just keep rocking, trying to make myself forget everything.  “Johnson, look at me man.”

“Can’t look up.”

“Blake, it was a dish or something crashing in the kitchen.  We aren’t there anymore man.  It isn’t anything bad,” he says as he puts his hand on my shoulder.  I finally look up to lock eyes with him and feel like such a coward for acting this way.

“I’m such a fucking pussy.”

“No, you’re not.  You are one of the strongest men I know and you will get through this,” Jameson cajoles as he bumps his head against mine.

“She’s going to leave.  We haven’t even stayed together because I was afraid I’d scare her with my dreams.  Now, I have scared her by being scared of a fucking dish breaking in a kitchen.”  I let out in a tortured groan.

“Anna isn’t Mary-Beth.  She’s a lot tougher than this.  If she cares she will stay.”

“I’ll be outside,” I say as I get up from under the table.  I avoid eye contact with anyone including Anna.  I hear her mumble something and then footsteps behind me, but I don’t wait for her to catch up.  I walk outside and to the edge of the building as I light up a cigarette.  I inhale the toxins welcoming them into my body.  Anna comes and stands in front of me, looking me up and down.

“How long have you been like this, Blake?”

“Like what?” I snap, I instantly feel remorse as I see her cringe and take a step back.

“Never mind.  I’m sorry I asked.”

“Anna, wait.  I just…  It’s not something I like to talk about.  Okay?”

“Is that why you didn’t stay the night with me that night we watched movies?”

“Yeah.  I wake up screaming sometimes.  I didn’t want you to see that side of me.”

“Well, I would have been there for you through it.  I want to know everything about you.  Why you lied to me and kept it from me, I don’t know.”

She gives me a sad smile as I light up another cigarette, looking over when I hear Jameson raising his voice outside with someone.  I look over to see Ms. Jennifer and Mr. Roger standing over there with him.

“Come on, I’ll take you home,” I say as I grab Anna’s hand and take her to my car.  I open the door helping her inside then I walk around to the other side.  I just flip Kyle off as I see him standing by the car parked beside me.  We drive in silence the whole way back to Anna’s and I can’t help but feel like this wall is growing between us more and more.  I pull into the apartment complex and put the Rover in park.

            “You gonna come in?”

“Not tonight, I think maybe I should just go on home.  We’ve had enough excitement for one night.”

“Oh, okay then,” she replies.  The look on her face kills me.  It’s the look of someone who’s hurting and I wish I could make it go away, but I can’t.  I don’t know how to fix it.  I watch her walk up the stairs to her apartment.  When I know she is safely inside I jerk the car into reverse.

EXCERPT:

Already regretting my decision to call Dex in the first place, I keep my distance for the remainder of the night, allowing him to have fun with his friends. He doesn’t engage me very much, only telling me even more that he wishes I wouldn’t have invaded his perfect life. By the time we go to bed, we venture into the room that is reserved for the two of us. I guess when you come with so many couples, it negates the whole guys in this room, girls in the other equation.

I escape into the bathroom and change my clothes. By the time I return, Dex is already in his pajama pants, digging in his bag. He drops his phone and bends down to retrieve it. As he steadily stands back up, his eyes roam up my body and a warm current in my blood swirls, following the path of his eyes. He bites his bottom lip and takes a deep breath. “I’ll be back,” he says with a husky voice.

Once he rushes out, I climb under the covers to disengage any sexual urges neither one of us will entertain tonight. In this moment, I wish I could be one of those girls. The ones who could sleep with Dex only to feel the comforting arms of a man, but it’s the fear of after that keeps my hands pinned around my body. The fear that he would sleep with me out of pity, or worse, that he would only do it for his own pleasure and release.

He opens the door, and his blue eyes focus on the television and anywhere but at me. “I’ll sleep on the floor,” he murmurs, never casting a glance my way.

“Don’t be silly. We’ve done this before.” I flip to my side.

“When we were fourteen, Chris.” He grabs the pillow.

“Really, Dex. I trust you,” I tell him, facing him head on, and oh my lord, his muscles are everywhere. He’s always been built, but holy mackerole, he’s insanely big now.

He looks at me long and hard for a few seconds and then pulls back the covers. As he’s sliding under the crisp white linen sheets, the mattress dips next to me. I turn around so my back faces his. We both reach over and turn off the lights on our respective sides. The funny thing is if someone walked in right now, they’d think we were two elderly people, who have been married for years, instead of hot-blooded early twenty-something’s.

Minutes of silence fill the room, and even with me shutting my eyes, visualizing what I imagine the beach must feel like, sleep won’t come. Dex’s close proximity has my body hyperaware of his breathing and his body. “Do you want to tell me?” he whispers.

“I’m okay. Like I said, I just needed a break. Thank you for bringing me. I hope I wasn’t too much of an inconvenience for you,” I lie, and a huge breath releases from him.

“You’re never an inconvenience to me. If you don’t tell me, I can’t help you,” he adds, and I roll over, although, he keeps his back to me.

“Nothing. Like I said I needed a breather.” If I admit to Dex the real reason, he’ll try to fix it and save me like normal. Being here with his friends and the people that care about him, he deserves normality and that’s not in my life’s course.

My hands itch to touch the grooves and contours of the muscles that spread across his back, displaying how hard he works out at the gym every day. “Just wanted to feel normal. So, thank you again.” The lies just continue to flow. He doesn’t need my drama in his life. He has his together, why should my fucked-up past screw with it?

The pillow shifts from the slow shake of his head. “You’re welcome,” he says, and the silence encompasses us once again. Eventually, the light whistling of his breathing signifies he’s fallen asleep. I lie awake, observing the rise and fall of his back until my eyes relent to the exhaustion of the day.

“What are you doing?” I asked breathily, licking my lips and silently begging him to kiss me.

He didn’t answer at first. He looked at me predatorily before leaning down to nibble on my neck. The feeling of his teeth lightly grazing my skin while the threat of someone walking down the hallway and turning the corner made me clench tightly. His fingers gripped my hips and desire washed over me. His hands caused goosebumps to erupt everywhere he touched. My body hummed from the electric currant that flowed between us. The anticipation I felt for Colton’s kiss was almost unbearable.

“What are you doing?” I repeated, wrapping my arms around his neck.

Leaning in so that our lips were almost touching, Colton answered sexily, “You.”
