Excerpt #1 from Paradise Taken
Rob was sitting near Jake and Claire and motioned for me to join him on the lounger. I put my
finger up indicating I needed a minute as I still had to see the caterers out. Rob winked at me
and smiled, reminding me of Jake’s odd response earlier in the evening. I smiled back as I tried
to ignore my thoughts.

Eventually, I made my way over to my husband and crawled into the chair with him. Jake’s eyes
never left me, but Rob didn't notice. It should have been unnerving, but it wasn't. I snuggled
deep beside my man, laid my head on his muscular chest, and wrapped my arms around his
waist. He was my home.

I felt Rob stirring and realized I’d fallen asleep in his arms in the lounger. He was still chatting
with Jake about work stuff, and I started to get up, but he pulled me back down and held me in
place.

“Don’t leave. We were thinking of going for a night swim.” Rob grinned. I knew what that
meant. He loved to swim naked with me, but I certainly wasn’t going to do that with Jake and
Claire here. He chuckled at my raised eyebrows because he knew I was about to protest, so he
whispered, “With suits this time.”

Title: Saving Us (Sequel to Paradise Taken) Author: C M Hutton   Genre: Adult Contemporary R0mance Publish Date: February 6, 2014 Publisher: Independent Published Event organized by:Literati Author Services, Inc.
~ Book Synopsis ~

Our love affair wasn't what everyone wanted it to be. It was raw and full of absolute joy
and unbelievable pain. My love for another woman had consumed me for years and now that Kaye was mine, I wasn’t ever letting her go. I knew the consequences of our affair would be devastating to our families, but I was too selfish to walk away.
My beautiful Kaye was having my baby and we were determined to get our happily ever
after....until one day, one event, one conversation threatened it all.
"I had to know what went wrong. My stomach was sick with grief and I didn't know what to
do next or even how to help Kaye. I needed to get to her. It didn't matter what Rob or Claire thought. No one could stop me from going. I knew she needed me. I could feel it deep in my soul." - Jake

Excerpt #1
The pain in Kaye’s eyes was almost too much for me to bear. I knew she loved me and wanted
to be with me, but having Rob and the kids standing there when we drove up was painful for her.
I wanted to force her back into my car and drive away. I knew that would never happen. She loved her kids too much, and she still cared a great deal about Rob.

I was certain their kids knew nothing about the baby being mine. It appeared that the affair wasn't a big surprise, but apparently, the paternity was a secret. That didn't matter to me—not at that moment.
Reluctantly, I got in my rental and drove away from the love of my life and my baby. I needed to give Kaye some time with Rob and her kids. I hated it, but I didn't really see a choice. As I drove back to our hotel, I thought about how things could have been all these years had I just told Kaye about my feelings while we were in college. I didn't regret my life with Claire, and I certainly didn't regret my children, but they’d never fully had my heart. It belonged to someone else and the life I’d missed out on.

Excerpts from Revival by Noelle Adams

Excerpt 3

So Baron had to climb a tree. In his business suit. On the edge of a college campus.

It wasn’t exactly the way he would have chosen to spend the afternoon.

He probably shouldn’t have suggested the girls play around the tree, though, and the little girl was being remarkably brave. Plus, there wasn’t anyone else around who could climb up there after her.

So he climbed. He talked to her casually as he did, telling her about Robin Hood, Will Scarlett, and Maid Marion and about how, when she got down, she could play a lot better.

When he reached a high enough branch, he braced himself against the trunk to assess the situation. He didn’t want to put much weight on the branch Charlotte was hanging onto, so he balanced on the large branch beneath it and stepped out toward her.

“You ripped your sleeve,” Charlotte informed him, as he grabbed her and hauled her over toward the tree trunk.

“So I did.” Baron hadn’t just ripped up one of the sleeves of his jacket. He had also scratched the back of his neck. “You’ll have to pay for it, I guess.”

Charlotte giggled, not for a moment believing he was serious.

They managed to climb down to the lower branches, and Baron swung himself down to the ground and reached up to take Charlotte.

The girl extended her arms toward him, but he didn’t expect her to jump off the branch toward him at the same time.

She did jump, and the momentum threw him off balance.

The next thing he knew he was sprawled flat on the ground with a blond child on top of him.

He opened his eyes to see the other girl peering down at him with wide green eyes that suddenly looked eerily familiar. “You fell down.”

“I did.”

This was definitely not turning out to be one of his better days.

Charlotte was trying to pick herself up, but unfortunately that included elbowing him in the chest and kneeing him in the stomach. She stared down at him too with those same green eyes.

And suddenly Baron knew who the eyes belonged to. He knew who these disastrous girls belonged to.

Another pair of green eyes stared down at him, paired with an adult face and a very adult body.

“And I’ve told them over and over again that they’re not supposed to tackle strangers,” Leila said. Her voice was light, but her face was kind of pale, and he wondered how much of the dramatics she’d seen.

Now that he knew, the resemblance was glaringly obvious. These girls couldn’t belong to anyone except Leila. It had never even crossed his mind before, though.

“It was nice of you to play Will Scarlett for us,” Jane said, brushing away the remnants of her tears. “But I think we should play Therm-o-ply instead.”

Charlotte patted Baron on the chest, just as he was trying to sit up. “We’ll even let you be the Spartans!”

Baron finally managed to regain his feet, dirty, bruised, and torn in more than one place. He angled a look over at Leila, who had pulled Charlotte into a hug but was gazing at him with eyes that were mostly apologetic.

But a tiny part of her expression, Baron was convinced, reflected faint amusement. At him.

Not—not—his best day.

Excerpts from Autumn Wish by Stacey Joy Netzel

EXCERPT 1:

He’d just reached into the refrigerator for a beer when the doorbell chimed. The cheery summons grated across his nerves, making him cringe. Could he ignore this unwanted visitor who appeared to have practically been waiting in the bushes for him?

A glance over his shoulder gave him the answer. Nope. His bare windows, glaring lights, and the volume of the TV made it impossible to pretend he wasn’t home. Curtains and blinds seemed a great investment right about now.
Kicking the fridge shut, he twisted the cap from the bottle. The doorbell went off again, twice as long as before, as if the person on the other side held it down. Damn it. If this was another married woman bringing him pie, he was going to—

Smile, and say, “Thank you.” That’s what neighbors did, right?

He took a long, fortifying pull off his beer, then thumped it on the counter on his way to answer the door. Too bad his neighbor right next door hadn’t been one of those pie-wielding visitors. He’d have invited her inside.

Then he got a glimpse through the window...of her standing on his front porch.

“Well, whaddaya know,” he murmured with a sudden grin of anticipation. Maybe she’d come in and watch the game with him. Hell, he wouldn’t even care if she held a pie in her hands.

He swung the door open and smiled his welcome at the pretty blond. His gaze dropped, then froze. Where he would’ve preferred a pie, she held a baby carrier—complete with baby.

Damn, she had a kid. After what his mother put him and his sister through, he didn’t do women with kids.

“Samuel Mallin?”

He lifted his gaze up from all that pink to a pair of guarded blue eyes. Forcing his lips to maintain their upward curve, he answered, “I prefer Sam. And you’re Nicole, right?”

“Nikki.” She frowned. “How’d you—”

“I had some of your mail in my box yesterday,” he admitted.

“Ah.”

Her wry smile was appealing enough to make him forget about the baby. But it faded fast as she took a breath, shifted her stance, then extended her arms, carrier and all.

“Sam, this is yours.”

There was a crumpled envelope clutched between the fingers of her right hand. Tilting his head, he read his name in the crinkled address field and removed it from her grasp with a laugh. He liked that she’d chosen to bring his mail over personally. If he’d been thinking, he’d have done it first—and found out about the kid.

“Thanks,” he said as her baby began to fuss. “I just put your stuff in your mailbox.”

Nikki lifted the carrier higher with an exasperated huff. “You don’t understand. She is yours.”

In the middle of stuffing the folded envelope into his back pocket, his gaze dropped to the baby. Blue eyes, just like her momma. It took his brain a moment to make the connection, and then his pulse jumped as his eyebrows shot skyward. “Uh...I don’t think so.”

The baby sucked hard on a pacifier, her eyes shifting back and forth as she squirmed in the confined seat. Oh, hell no. He lifted his gaze once more, taking note of the woman’s curves on the way up. Yeah, she was pretty, but not worth this level of crazy. He’d have much preferred another pie.

“May I come in?”

“No,” he stated. “She’s not mine.”

He fumbled for the edge of the door. The woman stepped forward as he began to shut her out.

Her chin lifted and those blue eyes of hers glittered with determination. “Her name is Ella. She’s three and a half months old.”

“I haven’t—”

He broke off as she shouldered her way past, into his living room. Sam closed the door and followed her to the couch where she set the carrier and an overflowing diaper bag. He glanced toward the kitchen, searching out his cell phone on the counter. Was he going to have to call the cops to get rid of her?

The baby started to cry, so Nikki picked her up and rocked her while speaking in a soft, crooning voice. The gentle sound soothed his nerves until common sense returned with a vengeance.

Denial shook his head as he moved to stand in front of her. “Listen, I don’t know what you think you’re going to get out of this, but we’ve never met before, much less done what we would’ve needed to do to create that baby.”

The inspiration behind Always:

For a long time I’ve wanted to write a story about a friendship mixed with unrequited love. I liked the idea of a girl in love with a guy and then getting over him. Like, really over him, and still preserving their friendship. And then he falls in love with her. That dynamic had been dancing around in my mind for quite a while.
I’ve always had a soft spot for artists of all kinds. I’m an artist myself, and I love the idea of people bonding over what they create together. It’s powerful and the work exists outside of whatever personal dynamics people might be dealing with. The art can tie them together even when everything else might be pulling them apart. Mix that together with this theme of badly-timed love and Alwaysslowly started shaking out.
Brushing my teeth is golden writing time for me. I can’t tell you how many story-telling problems I’ve solved while brushing my teeth before bed. That’s exactly when Always started. Imagine me, toothbrush still in my mouth, toothpaste dripping off my lip, while I furiously typed an exchange of dialogue into the notes function on my iphone before it slipped away from me. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve started a story that way and hopefully it’s not the last. Anyway, that first bit of dialogue, which came before there was any kind of plot or characters, is still more or less in the book, at the tail end of Part 1. Let’s hear it for toothbrush inspiration.

About the Author
Like many writers, Amanda Weaver spent her childhood constantly telling stories. College steered her in a different direction and into a successful career as a designer. Several years ago, she picked up writing again strictly as a hobby, to blow off some creative steam. One thing led to another, National Novel Writing Month happened, and here we are. Amanda Weaver grew up in Florida and now lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband, daughter and two crazy cats.

From Chapter 1:

“Sorry you can’t stay for our next set,” she said brightly, aiming for off-handed.

“I am, too,” Dillon replied, sounding genuinely disappointed. “It feels like we have a lot more to talk about. Hey, why don’t you come to our show on Wednesday? We’re playing the Greek. I’ll leave your name at the box office and you can come backstage after. We’ll finish this then.”

Her heart pounded as the thrill worked its way through her. “Sounds good. Thanks.”

“No, thank you. This night turned out to be way more entertaining than I thought it would be.”

She took in his dark eyes, focused just on her, and the slight smile as they made plans to meet again. In that moment, it was the best night of her life. “For me, too.”

The song playing overhead suddenly cut off, like water being thrown on the crowd. The magic of the past half hour disappeared into the chatter of voices all around them.

A moment later, the DJ began the countdown to midnight and someone handed them shots. As the crowd shouted down the numbers, she looked at Dillon and he looked back, smiling. The moment felt huge, important, the kind you look back on years later and think “It all started then.” What they were starting wasn’t entirely clear yet, but Justine hardly cared. When “one” rang out, the room erupted into noise, Dillon tipped his head back and downed his shot. She watched his throat work as he swallowed before closing her eyes and raising her own glass to her lips with an unsteady hand. The burn slid down her throat, her chest erupting in fire, and she exhaled.

When she opened her eyes, Dillon’s face was just inches from hers and her breath stalled in her chest.

“How about a kiss to ring in the New Year?” he murmured.

The Review:

Lush (Love Story #1)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book from Author Chris Adonn (maybe because it is her first romance) that I have had the privilege of reading, but I'm sure it will not be the last.

There are some really fun moments that had me laughing out loud, some hot, steamy scenes and a happy ending... What more can you ask for in a romance?

Go out and get your copy and check it out for yourself.

The bio:

If Chris Adonn were to write up her own “short biography” it would sound something like this — since she is in fact the one writing this bio, but she’ll stick to the third person, as she fancies it her right as a writer:

She lives on a little farm in rural South Africa and she considers it ablessing and a curse. The blessing comes in the form of clean air, sweet water that flows through and aquifer below her feet, clear night skies filled with stars, and peace and quite whenever she needs it. The curse lies in the fact that the roads surrounding her home are very long and all dirt. During a good storm this can mean being stuck at home for weeks on end. Yet this perceived curse is yet another blessing, because that’s when she finds the besttime to write.

She has worked as a graphic designer and a fine artist, but neither of these vocations has ever inspired the same level of passion as writing does.

The characters she writes about are as real to her as... well as real as make-believe friends can be. She’s that kid who never outgrew her imaginary buddies. They stop by daily and tell her stories that she narrates for them—a quirk she shares with many a writer.

She loves her family, but prefers to keep them and their lives private. She adores her extended family of 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 lovebirds, and 2 Budgies. They, and her flesh-and-blood friends, are the ones who make sure she keeps a decent schedule and does not get lost in the worlds she writes about.

Falling For Bentley
By: Shawnte Borris

One eye barely open, glanced around the room, desperate for it to stop spinning. There’s a faint moan beside me, and when I carefully turned my head towards it, I saw brunette hair splayed across the pillow and down the back of a naked chick. My eyes slowly move down to the small of her backmy favorite part of a woman’s body.

I stopped when I recognized the Celtic tattoo and quickly lifted the sheet to see if I had my briefs on, I did. I slowly sat up to look for any evidence of last night’s shit show. No condom…no wrapper, thank God.  Lube and a vibrator? What the hell?
“What are you doing?” giggled Amanda as her cold claws rubbed my back. I tried to straighten out of her grip. “Baby relax, let’s finish what we started last night,” She whispered in my ear before kissing the side of my neck.
Did we?”
“No, you passed out before the party really got started. I had to use my vibrator to finish the job.”
“Uh, sorry about that.” I pulled her hands off me.
“Why don’t you make it up to me, Bentley? Like the good ol days, back in high school. I miss this.” she growled, grabbing my dick.

I shot out of the bed and scrambled for my pants.
“Where are you going?” Amanda grabbed my shirt and threw it over herself.
“I...ah…I need to go.” I stuttered, trying to put my shoes on without falling flat on my face.
“Bentley.” Amanda whined, throwing my shirt at me.
Bang-Bang-Bang, “Bentley get your ass up. We gotta go.” Curtis yelled.
“Thank Christ.” I mumbled under my breath as I pulled my shirt over my head.

“That’s it? Youre going to leave me like this, wet and wanting you? Needing you to fill me?” moaned Amanda.
“Sorry, Amanda, but I gotta go. Curtis and I already made plans.”  I opened the door and looked at my best friend.
“Bentley Knight before you walk out that door, you better think long and hard. There will not be a third time.”
“There shouldn’t have been a second,” toss over my shoulder and ducked just intime to miss a glass as it shattered on the wall in front of me. I closed the door and looked over to Curtis, laughing his ass off. “Let’s get the fuck out of here.”
